"Mom, Dad wouldn't really abandon us, would he?"
In her apartment, Linda had been trying to reach Oliver for days with no reply. It was obvious to anyone that he was ignoring her.
Since she left the private room, her best friends had made things worse for her. She was sick of it. She had to find a way to calm him down.
Just as she was deep in thought, someone knocked at the apartment door.
She was about to snap at whoever it was when she heard Oliver's voice outside. She sprang up and opened the door.
"Oliver, I knew you—ah!"
The smile on Linda's face fell the instant the door opened. A hard slap landed across her cheek.
"Why?" She whimpered. This was the second time. Why was this happening again?
She held her face and stared at him, bewildered. "Tell me. Were you really the one who donated your kidney to me back then?"
Oliver's gaze was like a blade dipped in poison, cold, sharp, and terrifying enough to chill the blood.
