Eva’s Point of View
The weight of the confrontation with Max clung to me like a suffocating shroud. Every word, every look, every plea replayed in my mind, haunting me as I sat in Sally’s cozy living room. The soft hum of the heater did little to warm the chill that had settled deep in my bones.
I wrapped my arms around myself, staring blankly at the untouched cup of tea Sally had placed in front of me. My chest felt hollow, yet heavy, as if my heart had been replaced with a stone.
Sally sat across from me, her expression a mix of concern and frustration. “Eva, you can’t keep doing this to yourself,” she said gently, her voice tinged with exasperation. “You’re letting him live rent-free in your head. It’s not healthy.”
I blinked, my gaze finally shifting to her. “He doesn’t deserve my forgiveness,” I said, my voice hoarse from hours of crying. “None of them do. Max, Sara, my father… they all betrayed me. They all broke me.”
