Emily's Point of View
The dimly lit room smelled of damp wood and faint cigar smoke. I adjusted my coat, shivering slightly as the chill from the cracked window seeped through. The man in front of me sat motionless, his face hidden behind a black mask. Only his piercing eyes, sharp and calculating, gave away any emotion.
"Max is on to us," he said, his voice low and gravelly, sending a shiver down my spine. "He's digging deeper. If we don’t act fast, he’ll find out everything."
My heart skipped a beat, but I forced myself to remain composed. Years of navigating through high society had taught me to mask my emotions. I couldn’t afford to let this man see any weakness.
"Then tie up the loose ends," I replied firmly, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me. "We can’t let him discover the truth, not now, not ever."
