The peasant woman hadn't been near the door by coincidence—she'd gone to the makeshift station kiosk to buy some candy.

Seeing Willow staring blankly at the candy, the woman grew even more flustered. Her hand wavered uncertainly as she stammered, "I—I can go get somethin' better if ya like..."
"No, no need! Thank you!" Willow picked up a piece and popped it into her mouth, her eyes crinkling warmly. "This is delicious—I love it. Mr. Philip, Uncle Vance, Auntie Diaz, would you like to try some too?"
Philip froze for a long moment before his trembling fingers finally took a piece.
Uncle Vance and Auntie Diaz followed suit.
Relief and joy spread across the woman's face as she watched them eat.
Two small children clung to her side, licking their lips with longing but staying obediently silent as they followed her back to their seats.
