"I didn’t say that," Cassandra cut in quickly, then added, "If I’m not mistaken, it should be the middle of the night where you are, Mr. Blackwood?"
"Mhm, it is," Damien’s voice came through low and rich, smooth like velvet in the dark.
"Calling me for a late-night chat, Mr. Blackwood? You really live life on easy mode, huh?" Cassandra couldn’t quite read him, so she tossed out a half-joking remark.
"If that’s how you see it, Cassie, maybe next time you can call me for a midnight chat," his tone was light, with just a hint of laughter. Deep, soft, and oddly magnetic.
"Staying up at night to chat? No thanks. I’m not that free," she shot back without hesitation.
