“I’m sorry, sis. I was just curious, that’s all…” Vera lowered her head, voice soft and apologetic, clearly scared.
"Curious gives you the right to rip open someone else's package without asking?" Cassandra clutched the gift box tighter, her smile full of mockery.
“I told Vera to open it. What now? It’s not like you’re hiding anything. Why can’t she open it?” Evelyn glared at her sharply, her voice full of irritation.
Seeing Vera willing to take the blame made the old lady feel even more justified in doting on her. Cassandra’s confrontational tone only made her even more annoyed.
“Grandma was just looking out for you. Please don’t be mad anymore,” Vera said softly, then gave a little bow to Cassandra before quietly walking back to sit next to Evelyn.
Cassandra was fuming, her knuckles white from how tightly she held the box.
