"Hey Cass, what are you looking at?" Emma popped up from nowhere and tapped her on the shoulder.
"Nothing really." Cassandra tucked away the voice recorder and turned around. "Emma, what are you doing here?"
Shouldn’t she be in the library?
"You looked kinda off when you left, and I got worried. So I just followed you out." Emma explained quickly, "But don’t worry, I just kept my distance and didn’t hear anything."
"Thanks, Emma. I appreciate it. I'm fine, really." Cass meant it—Emma’s thoughtful gesture warmed her up a little.
Emma didn’t press further since she clearly didn’t want to talk. She just smiled and said, “Come on, let’s grab a drink. Class is about to start anyway.”
Cass nodded, but her mind felt heavy—Ethan wasn’t leaving her alone, and Mara’s warning still lingered.
That pendant… would Mara really back off that easily?
