Frederick moved quietly to Jane’s side, lowering himself cross-legged onto the floor without ceremony.
He didn’t speak—just sat there, offering silent company.
Jane didn’t linger long. Her expression remained eerily calm as she rose to her feet.
"Brother Frederick, did you prepare Terry’s burial clothes?" she asked, her voice stripped of any hint of sorrow.
Fisher immediately stepped forward, presenting the neatly folded garments.
As Jane reached out to take them, Frederick’s warm hand gently closed around her slender, cold wrist.
"Jane, let me do it," he said softly.
For a long moment, her emotionless gaze locked on his. Finally, she gave a faint nod.
"Alright, Brother Frederick. You do it."
Turning away, she stood rigidly with her back to him while Frederick, with careful, reverent movements, dressed Terry in his final attire.
The funeral was modest, yet the entire Wallace family attended. Even her grandfather and his three elderly comrades made the journey to send Terry off.
