"Let's just eat at the cafeteria, okay?"
Lilah looked at Damien, her voice soft as she glanced back at Gabriel's intense stare.
Damien adjusted his glasses, a touch of awkwardness in his tone. "You sure that won't be too plain for Mr. Wallace?"
"He's chill, trust me." Lilah tossed a glance at Gabriel's frosty expression — yeah, not exactly convincing, even to herself.
But hey, the guy said he wanted cafeteria food — what could she do?
Damien gave Gabriel another once-over, clearly not buying the whole "chill" thing.
"I've got something to take care of," Damien said, glancing at his watch. "You two rest up. I'll swing by again later."
"Go on, don't worry about us," Lilah said, stuffing her hands into the pockets of her white coat, flashing a reassuring smile.
Damien instinctively reached out like he used to when she was a kid, wanting to pinch her cheek — but looking at the grown-up version of his sister, vibrant and confident, he dropped his hand halfway.
