Chapter 26

“Second Young Master, you must know that the alternative liver donor, Susan Rodney, had been so relentlessly harassed over her liver that she’d gotten into a car accident as she was trying to avoid being harassed - she is currently being hospitalized for the injuries that she’d suffered in the crash.” Aidan’s face darkened at this piece of bad news, “What did you just say? Damn it, how could something like this happen at such a crucial time - are her injuries very severe? Would it still be possible for her to undergo a liver transplant procedure given her current condition?” The assistant glanced hesitantly at Travis, as though as he was unsure about whether or not what he had to say next would be what Aidan wanted to hear - Travis sighed, “Regardless of whatever the verdict might be, just give it to us, we’ll take it.” “Miss Rodney...is in quite a serious condition after the car accident. There’s absolutely no way that she would be able to undergo a liver transplant procedure, or any other sort of procedure for that matter, for the next two months.” Travis’ shoulders sagged visibly - he shook his head as he sighed, “Two months is way too long of a time that Laura can afford to wait - I’m afraid that she would be a gone case by the time that Miss Rodney is fit enough to donate her liver to her.” Aidan did not say anything in response - he was silent for a moment before he fished out his mobile phone from his pocket to call his secretary. “Hello? Yes, it’s me - I need you to go to Roggens City to look into something for me…” Travis couldn’t help but furrow his brows slightly at Aidan’s words, “Aidan - are you thinking what I’m thinking? Do you also feel like there’s something fishy about this whole situation?” “Of course there’s something wrong about this entire situation - how could something like this happen out of the blue?” Aidan replied in a rather frustrated and irritated tone. I want to get to the bottom of this - I want to find out just who is it who’s trying to mess around with me and prevent me from being able to achieve what I want to achieve. Whoever it is who’s behind all of this - I’ll make sure not to let him down easily. Travis thought about it for a moment before deciding to step forward to reassure his visibly distressed and enraged friend, “Aidan, there’s no need for you to fret over this - Eliana and Laura are both in stable conditions. It’ll be fine to discharge them and allow them to rest and recuperate at home. Don’t worry, I’ll take matters into my own hands and personally go to Roggens City to see if I can a way to ensure that Miss Rodney heals and recovers as soon as possible. Rest assured that you won’t have to make that difficult decision that you might potentially have to make.” “Travis - what are the odds of finding another liver donor?” Aidan asked Travis in a rather flat and monotonous voice, as though he couldn’t find it in himself to hold onto much hope anymore. Travis was tongue-tied - while he was well aware that this would be an extremely difficult feat to accomplish, at the same time, he didn’t want to break the harsh truth to Aidan for the fear of possibly discouraging and dampening his friend’s existing sour and bitter mood. Sensing this, Aidan sighed at his friend’s lack of response and clear hesitance before he asked him another question, “Alright, never mind, you don’t have to answer that, I think I know what you would tell me. May I ask, though - how long do you think it would take before Eliana completely recovers?” Travis sighed, “The most important thing right now isn’t how long it’s going to take Eliana to completely recover...it’s the fact that there’s already something inherently wrong with her liver. That’s not going to change even if her condition improves - it’s just way too risky for someone who has an unhealthy liver to undergo a liver transplant, especially so considering the fact that the recipient-to-be, Miss Collins, has existing health issues…” Travis paused for a moment before he continued, “As such, even if Eliana recovers in due time, it’s quite impossible to be able to ensure that the two of them live should you choose to make Miss Harvey donate her liver to Miss Collins…” Aidan’s face instantly turned darker at this solemn revelation - Travis hesitated for a moment before he commented, “Aidan, why don’t you just give up on Laura? After all, you know that you still…” “Travis,” Aidan cut his friend off in a warning and low tone as he turned to glare at him. “Aidan - you know well yourself that you’re still in love with Miss Harvey. I’m afraid that you might make a rash decision and…” Travis tried to argue. “No - I won’t make a rash decision. I’ve already said that I want nothing to do with that pathetic and sorry excuse of a woman - I don’t care what might happen to her.” Aidan retorted coldly before storming out of the room. … Eliana was in a much better condition when she returned to Blanchard Garden. She no longer looked as pale and malnourished as before for she had been quite well taken of by Robert, who’d prepared healthy and nourishing meals for her to recover. After he’d showed her to her room, Robert bowed and informed Eliana respectfully, “Miss Harvey, Second Young Master has instructed that you may occasionally take a walk in the courtyard and get some fresh air so that y...the liver in your body would be able to get back to its original healthy state as quickly as possible.” Eliana smiled politely at Robert and nodded in acknowledgment, “Alright, thank you for letting me know, I got it.” Alas, Eliana did not venture out of her room except for when it was time for dinner - even though she used to be a rather active and physical individual, she found that she preferred to lie down and stay indoors in the recent days. Eliana had been laying down on her bed when she heard the door creak open - she looked up slightly, curious as to why this particular individual hadn’t knocked as the people in the house usually would. Her eyes widened in surprise when they lay upon a pure and innocent-looking little boy standing at the door, blinking at her slightly in an adorable and endearing manner. He looked like he was only about two or three years old - he had a small build, large eyes, fair skin, and facial features strikingly resembling that of Aidan’s. The little boy walked over to Eliana’s bedside, still blinking cutely at her - Eliana couldn’t help but coo internally at just how adorable he was. “Hello there,” Eliana smiled faintly as she reached out towards the little boy slightly, “Who are you, you little boy?”
