Chapter 29
Shocked by Megan’s violent actions, Robert turned to look at Aidan - he didn’t look very pleased by what the former had done either. Laura appeared to be stunned by what the former had done - she was quiet for a moment before she came in between Megan and Eliana, holding her hands out as though she was trying to defend Eliana - she begged, “Megan, please, don’t do this.”
Megan gasped, “Laura, how could you let Eliana trample all over you just like that? This is the reason why you always end up being bullied by her.”
Instead of responding to her, Laura turned around and took Eliana by the arm - she asked in alleged concern, “Ellie, I’m so, so sorry that Megan hit you - does it hurt? Are you alright?”
Eliana scowled internally at Laura’s clearly fake concern - the former took a step back to place some distance between her and her cousin as she repeated herself, “So, will you forgive me?”
“There’s nothing that you should be sorry about in the first place,” Laura said benevolently, “After all, it is I who owe the Harvey Family a lot - I would never blame you, regardless of however you might treat me or perceive me.”
Eliana couldn’t help but scoff internally - This Laura...she’s really clever and cunning, isn’t she? She didn’t say that she would forgive me, nor did she say that she wouldn’t forgive me...alright, well-played, Laura, very well-played!
Alas, Laura’s lack of forgiveness meant that Eliana had to keep trying such that her father would be let off the hook - and so, she asked further, “What else do you want me to do for you to forgive me?”
Laura looked flustered, as though she hadn’t expected that from Eliana - she stammered, “W-What? A-Ah, there’s really no need…”
Eliana got down on her knees before she could even finish her sentence - at this, Laura immediately turned to Aidan and urged anxiously, “A-Aidan, please, release my uncle - I don’t want Ellie to despise me anymore. I just want us to be alright - please, won’t you do that for me?”
Instead of listening to Laura, Aidan turned to Robert and ordered, “Take them outside.”
“Yes, Second Young Master,” Robert obliged, scooping Evan up into his arms and ushering Laura and Megan out of the room.
“Aidan…” Laura reached out to try and coax Aidan, only for Megan to pull her away, “No, don’t even bother pleading for such a wicked and evil person - you’ll only waste your precious time and effort.”
As soon as Robert closed the door behind him, Aidan walked over to where Eliana was kneeling and spat down at her contemptuously, “I’ll make your father and brother pay if you dare lay a finger on them ever again.”
Even though she had done nothing wrong, Eliana closed her eyes and swallowed her pride - “Aidan, I’ve apologized just like you’d ask me to - so please, keep your promise and let my father off the hook.”
Aidan scorned, “Eliana - you’re truly a revolting and hideous person, don’t you know that?” He then turned to storm out of the room after finishing his sentence.
Eliana remained on the floor - she couldn’t help but scoff bitterly as she thought about just how pathetic and helpless she’d become...how she’d completely gave up her pride and dignity in exchange for the safeties and well-being of her dear father and brother.
If it means ensuring the safety and well-being of my father and brother, then so be it.
Eliana folded her knees to her chest as she rocked herself back and forth, trying to comfort and soothe herself - “It’s alright, Eliana,” she whispered to herself, “You’re okay...you’re okay…”
…
As soon as Aidan came out of the room, Megan marched forward and scowled at him, “Aidan, why haven’t you sent that crazy bitch away? It’s clear that she does nothing but stir up trouble in this household.”
Aidan glared at Megan as he retorted, “Who are you to tell me what to do in my own house?”
Megan huffed, “Don’t be ridiculous, Aidan - I simply wanted to stick up for Laura against that good-for-nothing and psychopathic whore.”
Aidan scoffed, “Robert - take her out of here. And make sure to return the slaps that she’d given to Eliana earlier.”
Megan widened her eyes in surprise - she couldn’t believe what Aidan had just ordered. “Aidan, what the hell are you doing! I’m your cousin, for God’s sake - why would you do this to me?”
“I don’t like people touching my things without my permission,” Aidan narrowed his eyes at Megan, “Let this be a lesson and a warning to you - next time, I’ll chop off your hands instead.” He then sent Megan away to be punished for her interference...
…
Aidan returned to his study and tried to resume work, only to find himself unable to concentrate - he couldn’t help but feel agitated at the thought of what Eliana had done.
Why am I feeling so worked up over this matter? Eliana - she completely deserved it, she was the one who’d hit the child for absolutely no reason...she’s truly a despicable and terrifying woman…
Just then, Aidan’s phone rang, snapping him out of his trance - he picked up and immediately turned solemn at what the person on the other end informed him.
“Second Young Master, we looked into Miss Rodney’s car accident and found some interesting new information - you were right, there is something off about the entire situation…”
