Chapter 35

Shocked by the news, Aidan’s hand slid down from Travis’ shoulders as he staggered a few steps back. He was swaying so much that it was as though he was about to collapse onto the ground at any moment. Robert immediately rushed forward to help Travis support Aidan. “I’ll go in to have a look - I’ll leave Aidan to you,” Travis told Robert before sprinting into the operating room. And so, Robert helped Aidan onto a chair - he then bent down beside the latter and looked up at him, reassuring, “Second Young Master - Miss Harvey may be gone, but Miss Collins is still undergoing the liver transplant procedure. You must stay strong and have faith in the situation.” Alas, Robert’s words fell on completely deaf ears - the only thing that was going through Aidan’s mind at this very moment was the fact that Eliana was gone - the fact that Eliana was dead. She’s actually gone now...she’d actually been sent to hell by me… The only thing that Aidan could remember Eliana by now was the way that she would smile at him in the past - her beautiful smile, so unique and bright, a smile that would never been found on anyone else. He also remembered the words that she would always say to him… “Aidan, you’ve got to be sure to always live your life to the fullest and never hold back - because, in the end, we would only regret the chances that we didn’t take.” The chances that we didn’t take...Eliana had a chance to live, but I didn’t allow that...do I regret not taking that chance now? As much as he tried to hide it, Robert could tell that Aidan was devastated and deeply affected by the news - there was nothing that he could do or say now to comfort him. Alas, everything had been Aidan’s choice - he had no one but himself to blame. There was nothing that Robert could do. Robert sighed deeply before getting up from where he’d been squatting down - he himself was rather distraught at the turn of events. As much as he refuses to admit it, I know just how much Aidan actually cares about Eliana...she means so much more to him than what he lets on. How could Aidan continue to live on without Miss Harvey? Just then, Robert’s phone vibrated - he fished it out of his pocket and was surprised to see the important number on the screen. He immediately hurried over to one side to pick up the call - he couldn’t believe what the person on the other end told him. “What? Are you for real?” he couldn’t help but gasp in disbelief. After the call, Robert returned to Aidan’s side - he had a solemn look on his face. Alas, he did not say anything to the latter. Aidan had been still for a long moment when he suddenly got up from where he was seated, walked over to the door of the operating theatre, and slammed a fist against it. “Open the door,” he demanded, “Open it this instant - I want to see her! Travis...tell her that I’ll make sure that her father and brother pay with their lives should she dare to die!” Aidan slammed his fist against the door as he cried, “Travis, let me in - I want to tell it right to her face, I need to tell her…” Before he could finish his sentence, Robert stepped forward to hold Aidan back, “Second Young Master, please don’t do this - Miss Harvey is gone. Just let her rest in peace.” Aidan shook his head madly as he murmured under his breath, “No, this won’t do - Robert, go, go! Get rid of Richard and Eddie Harvey for me this instant - I’ll make sure that Eliana Harvey regrets dying when I’d specifically told her not to…” “Second Young Master…” Robert started in an odd voice. Picking up on this, Aidan furrowed his brows, “What’s the matter?” “Second Young Master…” Robert bit his lip slightly before continuing, “The text message...it hadn’t been sent by Miss Harvey.” Aidan immediately shot up at this shocking revelation, “What did you just say?” “I...I sent some people to look into the matter upon seeing how wronged and devastated Miss Harvey looked in the basement. I just received a phone call from them...they informed me that the nurse had confessed to what had actually happened on that day. Miss Harvey is completely innocent.” Aidan’s face darkened as he clenched his fists at this revelation. “The nurse had been bribed to send the text message and frame Miss Harvey,” Robert revealed. Aidan couldn’t help but look up at the sign above the door of the operating theatre at this - he couldn’t help but think about just how he’d wronged the now freshly deceased woman lying on the operating table. “Who was it?” Aidan asked in a cold and sharp voice, “Who was the one behind all of this?” Just as Robert opened his mouth to speak, the doors of the operating theatre swung open to reveal Travis - albeit the solemn and serious expression on his face, the latter pulled down his mask and let out a long sigh of relief. “Aidan - I’m glad to inform you that we’ve managed to revive Eliana.” Upon hearing this, Aidan couldn’t help but instantly unclench his fists and let out a long sigh of relief - it was as though he was a man who’d been deprived of air for so long that he was now gasping for air. “Aren’t you ecstatic?” Travis grinned slightly as he patted his friend on the shoulder - alas, Aidan shrugged him off and stated in a cold and monotonous voice, “It doesn’t matter to me whether Eliana Harvey lives or dies.” Travis scoffed internally, unable to believe just how Aidan was still desperately trying to pretend as though he didn’t care about Eliana when he clearly did. He then turned and returned to the operating theatre. Aidan then turned to Robert once again and asked in a significantly calmer and less agitated voice, “Anyway, as you were saying - tell me, who was the one behind all of this?”
