Sophia's slender fingers clenched tightly around the bouquet, crushing the delicate stems out of shape. Her voice trembled as she struggled to speak, "I'm sorry, I've actually always..."
Before she could finish, the lights in the banquet hall suddenly went out. At the exact same time, fireworks erupted outside.
The sudden blast startled everyone, and heads turned toward the windows. Against the pitch-black night sky, fireworks exploded in dazzling bursts-like spring flowers blooming wildly, lighting up the entire horizon with a riot of colors.
The booming noise drowned out every sound inside. The guests, thinking it was just a surprise fireworks show, crowded by the windows to get a better look.
Only Mr. and Mrs. Turner looked confused. Mr. Turner quickly motioned someone over and snapped in a low voice, "Why are the fireworks going off now? We said they weren't supposed to start until after the ceremony!"
