Delia stayed curled up in Curtis's arms for who knows how long, until her stomach loudly grumbled. Curtis gently nudged her away. "Hungry?"
Delia scratched her head in embarrassment and nodded. "Maybe just a bit!"
Curtis chuckled softly and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "So, what do you feel like eating?"
Delia's big eyes lit up. "Nashville hot chicken? I'll take the extra spicy, and you can stick to the no-heat version!"
Curtis wasn't a fan of spicy food. She'd even told Edith to tone down the chili in their meals at home. But unless Delia was the one cooking, Edith always made sure to include a separate spicy portion-just the way Curtis had asked. Still, none of it was ever spicy enough to truly hit the spot.
The last time she had real, tongue-numbing hot chicken was with Cassandra-and that had been weeks ago. Now, with her stomach growling and her mouth already watering, she was practically dreaming of it.
