"How could he not be nervous?"
Curtis turned to leave the room but suddenly stopped and rushed back to the bedside.
His hands began trembling, just a little.
"Honey, you... you don’t have to be this way," Delia's voice came out softly. Even though she was anxious herself, the sight of Curtis fumbling with his movements and his faint shaking couldn’t help but make her want to laugh.
Curtis took a deep breath, stood still for a moment as though regrouping himself, and finally bent down carefully to scoop Delia into his arms.
As he made his way downstairs, his pace was deliberately slow, his every step deliberate, trying to avoid any misstep that might cause trouble.

“I just felt a pain in my stomach for a bit—though now it seems fine again," Delia explained calmly, "I’m not sure if it’s what you mentioned about contractions earlier.”
