"I saw that bitch Annie today. She—"
Before Helena could finish her sentence, Sean cut her off, his voice trembling with urgency.
"Mom! You have to talk to Easton! Tell him to let me come back! I can't stay here for a second longer!" Sean sounded like he was on the verge of a complete mental breakdown. "I can't take it anymore! This place is a living hell!"
Helena froze. Sean's desperate pleading instantly choked back the torrent of grievances she had been ready to unleash.
Sean didn't give her a moment to process. He pressed on, his voice frantic. "Mom, how is Cecilia? Go check on her for me. Tell her not to worry and that I'll be back soon."
The fire in Helena's chest flared up again instantly.
Sean was barely keeping his own head above water, yet he was still obsessing over Cecilia. She was just about to explode when the signal on the other end began to break up.
