Heather clenched her fists tightly, her eyes burning red.
Typical Devon—always knowing where her bottom line was, always forcing her into a corner with no escape.
The roar of an engine sounded nearby.
Heather turned toward the noise, and in the next second, she sprinted downstairs.
Before Devon's car could pull away, she rushed to the front of it.
"Devon Harlan! Whatever issues there are between us, we can talk them out. Don't drag my friends into this!"
The car window slid down, revealing Devon's icy face.
Watching Heather charge over in a panic—risking being run over—just to speak up for the man upstairs, the fire in his chest flared violently, as if it were to burn everything to ash.
