Chapter 52
Before Heather even pushed open the hospital ward door, she heard a burst of violent coughing from inside.
She hurried her movements, shoved the door open, and rushed in.
"Grandma!"
It had only been a few days since she last saw her, yet the woman on the bed had grown noticeably thinner. Her face was pale as paper, and her eyes were bloodshot.
The moment Lauren saw her, a smile lit up her eyes. "Heath, you finally came?"
A wave of bitterness surged up Heather's chest.
The reason she hadn't dared to come was precisely that she feared her own heart would soften.
"Come… come over to Grandma's side—" Before Lauren could finish her sentence, another fit of coughing seized her.
Heather hurried forward and grasped her hand. "Take it slow, Grandma."
The nurse beside them also tried to persuade her. "Please eat at least a little."
