Devon had always believed only in himself.
It turned out that the breakdown between them had never been because of Esme but themselves.
"Fine," Heather said calmly. "You can believe your own eyes for all you want. I have nothing more to say."
She turned and walked toward the door without a hint of hesitation.
"Stop right there!"
Before she could pull the door open, a large hand slammed it shut from behind.
"Let go!"
Heather shoved him with all her strength, but he wouldn't budge. Instead, his hand shot out and seized her chin, gripping hard enough to make her wince in pain.
"You're not going anywhere! If you dare take one step out of here today—"
Before he could finish, she swiftly pulled out a silver needle and jabbed it hard into the web of his thumb.
Devon cried out in pain and instinctively flung his hand away. Seizing the opening, she lifted her slender heel and drove it viciously into his knee.
He let out a muffled groan and collapsed to the floor.
"You shrew!"
