Davis’s POV
Five minutes later, I ended my call and stepped back inside from the balcony.
Just as I passed the bedroom door, Amelia came out, looking as calm and composed as ever.
“Mr. Davis,” she gave me a warm nod. “Everett’s doing much better now. I’ll be leaving.”
I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. “Thanks for your help. Let me walk you out.”
“No need. You should stay with Everett. I can see myself out.”
“Alright. The driver’s waiting out front. Take care, Miss Martin.”
“Thanks.”
Once she was gone, I headed into the bedroom.
The moment I opened the door, I saw Everett awake, sitting up in bed and staring blankly into space.
The top two buttons of his shirt were undone, showing his lean chest and sharp collarbones. His cheeks still had a faint flush, his eyes were streaked with red lines, and his usually neat hair was a complete mess—strands falling across his forehead, giving him this oddly vulnerable, broken look.
