She couldn't pretend nothing was wrong.
Clara Walton’s breath was getting more and more uneven.
One by one, the divers resurfaced in silence.
She was on the edge of falling apart.
Everyone stood quietly around her, not even daring to breathe.
It had been too long.
They were all starting to get worried.
The divers came back up one after another, shaking their heads, faces grim.
“No way,” Clara told herself, forcing calm into her voice.
Ethan Blackwood having an accident? No chance.
That possibility had never existed in her mind.
But the cruel reality was making her heart start to sink.
“Mrs. Blackwood…” one of the divers panted, “We’ve gone down fifty meters, didn’t find Mr. Blackwood. He should’ve come up by now.”
Even if something had gone wrong, as long as it happened in range of the buoy,
they should’ve found someone—at the very least, the body.
