Even Fiona Barrington’s own family members only had a partial match—maybe 60 or 70 percent at best.
It wasn’t that they couldn’t use it—but the risk was sky-high. If they went ahead with the surgery, Fiona could end up dying from an infection afterwards.
Add to that Ethan Blackwood’s stance, and the stakes were way too high.
They needed the best possible scenario.
“Go on,” Ethan said, his voice low and serious.
But judging from the look on the doctor’s face, Ethan had a sinking feeling. Still, he kept his expression calm.
The doctor finally spoke up again. “We had no other option, so we did a private match with Mrs. Blackwood’s cord blood.”
That one line had Ethan snapping his head toward the doctor, eyes widening in shock—or maybe it was something else.
The doctor shrank a little from Ethan’s intense stare.
“The only full match we found,” the doctor continued quickly, “was the cord blood from Mrs. Blackwood’s unborn baby—it’s a perfect 100% match, which is ideal.”
And then silence.
