Chapter 272
Felix Bennett knew exactly when to keep his head down, so he didn’t even glance at Ethan Blackwood or Clara Walton. He just quietly wished Clara good luck in his heart, then quickly hopped into Graham Anderson’s car.
Graham didn’t say much either. Lucy Hampton wasn’t about to dawdle, so soon, three cars started heading toward downtown River City. Still leading the way, as always, was Ethan’s ride.
Ethan got in with a stone-cold face, silent the whole way, and the gloom around him almost had a presence of its own.
Clara found the whole thing ridiculous. She ignored him on purpose. Wasn’t like she needed him to coddle her anyway, and honestly, she didn’t think she’d done anything wrong. Getting lost after dinner was her fault now?
She sat there silently roasting him in her head, probably a dozen times over.
Then, right when the car stopped at a red light, Ethan suddenly shot her a cold stare. Clara noticed, of course, but didn’t say anything at first.
