Chapter 1015 Everyone Looks Out for Themselves
“I’m not referring to your relationship with Miss McKinnon, but I believe that it should be very difficult for you to go public with the relationship, right?”
Emily’s remark reminded Brendan there was nothing he could do to make his relationship with Deirdre go public.
He was bound to Emily now. If he were to be seen interacting with Deirdre, the latter would most certainly be under attack, and his reputation, which he had salvaged with great effort, would be affected as well.
It was possible that the next step would be what those people wanted him to take.
Moreover, Brendan discovered that those people were not just targeting him after Ophelia’s incident.
The doubt in Brendan’s eyes faded bit by bit.
Emily smiled just as gracefully as she usually did. “Mr. Brighthall, I understand your concerns. An outstanding person of any gender would be noticed by others, let alone someone as exceptional as you. I wasn’t aware of your relationship initially, so I had feelings for you for some time. However, after learning about Miss McKinnon, I’ve already stopped myself.”
She assumed an arrogant demeanor. “My mother’s life was chaotic because of a mistress, and that was why I left to go abroad. I loathe a mistress that ruins someone else’s relationship more than anyone.”
There was a cheating incident in the Collins, and it had created a huge, ugly turmoil at the time. Naturally, Brendan had heard about the incident.
Upon hearing the remark, his doubt vanished completely. All in all, he had confidence in his relationship and knew that a woman of no importance could not ruin his relationship.
“Sure. If you are certain that you can cure Deirdre, I will commission you to treat Deirdre’s eyes, and you can name any requests as you please.”
Emily smiled nonchalantly. “I’m not going to name requests. I got in deep trouble for naming a casual request previously. Hence, I’m going to go straight to the point. I want to work with the Brighthall Group on the Southisle project. Moreover, Collins Pharmaceutical’s new products will be sold at all the stores owned by the Brighthall Group with proper marketing strategies.”
The woman’s eyes were brimming with wild ambitions.
She was bold in making huge demands indeed. Countless companies were draining their minds to curry favor with the Brighthall Group so they could work on the Southisle project.
“Is this your goal, Miss Collins?”
Emily cracked a smile. “Everyone looks out for themselves. Think about it, Mr. Brighthall.”
“I don’t need to think about it.”
Brendan found that it was a very worthy trade because it was a good thing that Emily was ambitious. He would be afraid if she did not want anything.
“I’ll do it if you can cure Deirdre. The Southisle project can still be delayed for a year anyhow. No rush.”
Emily extended her hand and said, “It’s a pleasure working with you.”
Brendan’s dark eyes landed on the woman’s hand. He let his guard down to take her hand since she was so sincere. “It’s a pleasure working with you.”
Meanwhile, the sound of footsteps was heard coming from the stairway.
Deirdre got out of the room and asked while she walked down the stairs holding onto the handrail, “Is there a guest in the house, Brendan?”
Brendan immediately walked over and helped Deirdre down the stairs. Noticing that she was only wearing a thin sweater, he removed his jacket and draped it over her.
“Wear a jacket when you come outside next time. The living room is not as warm as the room.”
“Okay.” Deirdre obediently wore the loose jacket and suddenly felt a burning gaze on her face.
Deirdre raised her head while Brendan introduced, “Deirdre, this is Miss Collins. Miss Collins, this is my lover, Deirdre McKinnon.”
Emily cracked a graceful smile, yet she was clenching her hands so tightly under her sleeves that her nails had already dug into her flesh.
She had never seen Brendan being so gentle, concerned, and careful. On the other hand, Brendan behaved this way from the moment Deirdre came downstairs.
