Chapter 994 Don’t Tell Him
“To the mansion? However, your injury…”
“It’s not a big deal. I’ll just clean the wound briefly. It’s not necessary to go to the hospital.”
Shea felt extremely guilty, and Deirdre knew about it. Before getting out of the car, she said, “Shea, I know what you’re thinking now. Don’t tell Brendan about my injury, and don’t punish yourself over it either.”
Shea was momentarily stunned before shaking her head. “I’m sorry, Miss McKinnon. I’m sorry I didn’t manage to protect you. It’s my fault for neglecting my duty. If I choose to hide from Mr. Brighthall, I will do him a disservice. I’m sorry, Miss McKinnon. I will not only tell Mr. Brighthall about it, but I will also accept my punishment.”
Deirdre was frustrated by Shea’s stubbornness.
“I’m asking you not to tell Brendan, not because I want you to do us a disservice but because Brendan’s health is very poor now. He will surely be worried if you tell him about my accident. However, he’s still in the hospital. Do you want him to get out of his bed to visit me now?”
Shea was stunned. She did not want that to happen.
Deirdre said, “I don’t want him to worry when my injury is just a trivial matter. I’m just going to make up an excuse for him tomorrow.”
Shea nodded and said, “Alright then. I shall go when Mr. Brighthall has recovered.”
Deirdre was amused. “Sure.”
Shea got into the car while Deirdre got back to the mansion.
Mrs. Engel immediately walked outside to welcome Deirdre upon hearing the commotion. Her expression was filled with concern and anxiety when she saw Deirdre’s face.
“What happened, Mrs. Brighthall? Isn’t Shea with you? How could she let you get injured?”
Mrs. Engel noticed the choking marks on Deirdre’s throat and inhaled sharply. “What is with this? Who attacked you so ruthlessly, huh!?”
Deirdre rubbed her neck. In truth, she did not feel any pain by now, but she still felt lingering fear in her heart at the thought of the suffocating feeling earlier.
She explained, “I went to see Charlene. She hates me more than I expected. She caught me off guard and pounced on me to choke me by force.”
“That woman is sinister!” Mrs. Engel felt a shiver down her spine. “She deserves whatever comes for her. Moreover, how is her amputated leg and imprisonment any of your fault, Mrs. Brighthall? She can seek revenge against those people if she has the capability to do so, right? It was them who amputated her leg, and they also handed the evidence to the police!”
Deirdre held back her laughter. “She loathes me because she thinks that I’m the cause of her downfall.”
Mrs. Engel got the first-aid kit and dressed Deirdre’s wound while she said angrily, “What do you mean by you’re the cause? Isn’t it her fault for stirring up all sorts of troubles from the beginning? Yet, you’re still so kindhearted that you traveled to visit her on purpose, Mrs. Brighthall.”
Deirdre wanted to get something from Charlene. But she felt rather gratified in her heart that Mrs. Engel would take her side unconditionally.
“I wasn’t concerned about her, but I need something from her.”
Mrs. Engel was surprised. “What do you mean?”
Deirdre suddenly remembered that Mrs. Engel had lived with her mother for some time, so perhaps Mrs. Engel would know about her father. She immediately turned her face.
“Mrs. Engel, do you know about my father? Has my mother ever mentioned him?”
“Your father…” Mrs. Engel’s expression changed drastically. “Why are you asking about this all of a sudden?”
“You know about him?”
Mrs. Engel shook her head. “I don’t, but I heard your mother mentioning him a little in the past. However, she didn’t say anything good about him, so my impression of him is very bad. Why are you asking about your father suddenly? Is Charlene acquainted with your father?”
