Chapter 594
Women from wealthy backgrounds were all into comparing themselves with one another. The only time they would unite as one was when they were facing a mistress.
All men would start sleeping around once they became powerful and wealthy. So long as it didn't affect the family, the wives would often turn a blind eye to it. However, that didn't mean they would tolerate having a mistress parade before them.
…
Mayra felt better after taking the painkillers.
Gordon carried her onto the bed and noticed she was still looking a little pale.
He shoved a warm water pouch into her arms and made sure to allow enough airflow into the room.
He took her clothes and trousers that were stained by blood outside to wash. When she heard the sound of water running, Mayra covered her face with the blanket.
Though they had been together for almost two years, he would only ever wash her clothes, and this was the first time he was washing her underwear for her.
The thought of that made her blush, so she covered her face in embarrassment.
Once Gordon was done an hour later, he washed her school uniform as well. After the laundry came out of the drying machine, he folded them and placed them into their shared closet.
When he rented the apartment, he only had her in mind and didn't think much, so there was only one bedroom.
He slept on the couch for the most part, and since there were heaters in the living room as well, it wouldn't be too cold.
Gordon stepped into the room and adjusted her blanket. Just as he was about to withdraw his arms, Mayra suddenly opened her eyes and grabbed his hand.
"Why aren't you asleep? Does it still hurt?"
Mayra nodded. The painkillers couldn't suppress the pain.
She tried to get up, and he helped her, allowing her to lean against him.
Mayra felt weak and said, "You're warmer."
Gordon placed a jacket over her and held onto her tighter. He reached one hand into the blanket and placed it on her abdomen, rubbing gently. "What about now? Better?"
"Yeah, better."
"If it gets worse, we're going to the hospital."
Mayra closed her eyes and said weakly, "Instead of going to the hospital, I prefer to be with you. It's been so long since you spent time with me like this. In a few months, I can go to Candor City and be with you."
"Yeah," Gordon said.
He remained in the same position without moving until Mayra fell asleep. He slowly lay her down.
The warm water pouch was turning cold, so he changed the water in it and placed it by her hand.

The next morning, Camilla was woken up by a maid banging on the door. When she woke up and opened the door, the maid said frantically, "Oh, no, Mrs. Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer came home and suddenly started beating Mr. Brandon. They're in the living room now.
"Mr. Brandon is going to be severely beaten if you don't go over there now."
Camilla's heart sank. "What on earth happened?"
She threw on a shawl and hurried down the stairs. When she saw what was happening, she let go of her usual elegant demeanor and immediately took on a more dominating presence. "Gregory Sawyer, stop!"
