The next day, right after I finished all the discharge procedures, I got a call from Xander Lewis.
He sounded genuinely concerned. “Sophie, I heard you’re out today. Sorry I couldn’t swing by. Been swamped digging up evidence about Lena poisoning the kid.”
“You really think it was Lena?” I pressed my lips together and tested the waters.
“If it wasn’t her, then who? You?” Xander’s tone was super casual, as if he was dead sure it was Lena.
“But someone really swapped my meds. The hospital report was totally faked.” I didn’t hide anything from him and laid it all out. “How could Lena know exactly what I’m taking and manage to get the exact same bottle ready in advance?”
“Maybe she has her ways.” He stayed unfazed, not even a flicker of doubt in his voice. Then added, “But honestly, not many people knew about your meds. It shouldn’t be hard to track down. I’ll help you dig into it. Having a mole around you? That's never a good thing.”
