“It’s not just me. I know you think the same,” I replied calmly, meeting his gaze. “You kept warning me to stay away from Cindy Clark. That’s not nothing, right? You must have doubts about her too.”
Henry let out a surprised laugh. “Sophie Johnson, when you need to be smart, you’re hopelessly clueless. But when you’re supposed to be confused, you get sharp as a tack.”
He wasn’t wrong.
If I’d been more cautious earlier—if I hadn't given Cindy the info about Amiteline and had brought down Lena myself—it wouldn’t have been impossible. It would’ve been tough, sure, but at least I’d be in control. Unlike now, where I just sat back and waited for Cindy to make her move and ended up right in the mess.
