Chapter 183
My phone was still in my hand. My first thought was to call the police, but then I remembered—this was an island. Even if they set out right away, it'd be at least four hours before anyone showed up. So 110 was off the table. Instinctively, I dialed Henry Smith.
He wasn’t even on the island right now, so calling him wouldn’t help, yet my fingers hit his number anyway.
He picked up fast. His voice was low and groggy, clearly just woken up. “What’s wrong?”
“There—scorpions! There are scorpions on my bed!” I was choking on my own panic.
I was so freaked out my voice cracked in places.
There was a pause like Henry wasn’t sure he’d heard right. “Shoes?”
“Scorpions! One—no, two!” I glanced to the side and spotted another one climbing up the bedpost.
The black scorpions stood out starkly against the white sheets, dragging their curved stingers behind them, slowly creeping my way. I lost it completely and broke into sobs.
The first one was almost halfway across the bed, barely ten centimeters
