Chapter 298
They say when it rains, it pours—couldn’t be more true. Just when things at home finally calmed down with Grandpa, something blew up on my mom’s end. Apparently, someone barged into the psych hospital and beat her up.
When I got the call, I was so stunned I just froze. First thing that popped into my head was—wait, Cindy Clark isn’t out of prison yet, right?
I hung up and rushed to the Westside psychiatric hospital straight away.
By the time I got there, a nurse was helping Heather Carter with her wounds. Her clothes were wrinkled beyond saving, her hair looked like she hadn't brushed it in days, and her face... yikes. A bunch of red welts from slaps, so bad it actually hurt to look at her.
When the nurse cleaned the scratches on her neck, she screeched like a kid, arms tightly wrapped around me, sobbing her heart out—honestly, even more dramatic than Evan when he gets hurt.
George Knight always said she was faking the whole “crazy” thing. But looking at her now, I couldn’t be so sure.
