It was a quiet dinner for the three of us. The whole time, he looked like he had something to say but kept holding it back. Not until Evan got tired and I took him to bed did he finally speak up, trying to sound casual. “Did you go to the hospital today? You smell like disinfectant.”
I was bending over to fix the blanket, and maybe I was a bit petty, trying to push Henry’s buttons, so I told him the truth. “I went to see Xander Lewis. He drank too much last night and ended up with alcohol poisoning.”
