Chapter 37

I rushed over and grabbed Grandma’s hand, calling her name over and over. But she didn’t respond. She just kept switching between laughing and crying, ignoring me completely. When she got annoyed, she didn’t talk back—just whimpered and pushed me hard. The handcuffs on her wrists clanged against the wheelchair’s metal armrest, making a harsh banging sound. I used to hate her, all because of money. I believed what Lena Carter said and blamed Grandma for the death of my child. Back then, I honestly wished she’d die. But seeing her like this now… I couldn't hold back the tears. Staring at the cold metal cuffs on her wrists, my voice shook as I glared at Henry Smith. “Why? Why would you do this to her?!” Just a few weeks ago, Summer Lewis told me Henry had been looking for me and Grandma all these years, that he really cared. What a joke. She’d already been in his hands for who knows how long—broken and ruined like this. He deserved an Oscar. Even with Summer, he managed to fool everyone.
