Chapter 45
Turned out, Cindy Clark was right—since there were no surveillance cameras, the police could only conclude that the inflatable support on the slide had been torn by something sharp. The deflation caused it to collapse, but whether it was an accident or intentional couldn't be confirmed. In the end, the shop paid up, and the case was wrapped up hastily.
I wasn't about to just let Cindy off the hook that easy. So, I hired a private investigator to trail her 24/7. I didn’t believe she wouldn't slip up eventually.
By the time I got home around nine in the evening, Henry Smith still hadn’t come back.
Honestly, him not being around made me feel more relaxed. The day had been way too exhausting, physically and mentally. I took a quick shower and crashed straight into bed.
In the middle of my deep sleep, I suddenly felt pressure on my throat—as if someone were choking me. I snapped awake and saw Henry's furious eyes staring down at me.
“Sophie Johnson, you’ve got guts! Daring to cheat on me?”
