I could hear Henry Smith's footsteps heading straight for the fitting room. The click of his leather shoes on the marble floor sounded loud and heavy—like they were stomping right on my chest. Out of reflex, I ducked behind Xander Lewis, clutching the back of his shirt as I curled myself up. Xander reacted faster than me—he locked the fitting room door within seconds. Someone twisted the doorknob a few times but couldn’t get in. “Sorry, sir, someone just went in to try clothes. The next fitting room over is free, feel free to use that one,” I heard the salesperson say.
