It was clear she wouldn’t get any answers from him.
Without another word, Eleanor slipped into the car.
From the driver’s seat, Jacob started the engine. The low growl rose into a clean, sharp roar, cutting through the stillness of the night with startling clarity.
Outside the window, the world streaked past in smudges of shadow and light. Streetlamps cast scattered halos over the wet asphalt, the glow shifting and flickering until it blurred her vision.
But her thoughts remained fixed on one thing—
