Jennifer's face burnt red with anger at my words.
I could see her clearly clenching her fist beside herself, and that little act.
Was enough to tell me my words riled her—just exactly what I wanted.
My lips tug up into a satisfied smirk at the thought.
But then, they fell the moment I saw the hospital staff wheeling Ethan out of his room and towards the ICU.
Jennifer traced my gaze down to Ethan who was being wheeled through the door of the ICU.
His face deathly pale, and his hands hanging languidly at his side connected to the drip set.
My chest tightened, tears clouding my vision, but I refused to let them fall as I watched him disappear into the ICU.
Jennifer scoffed at the sight, mirth clouding her eyes as she observed me.
“Leah, I think you should return home now and change.
The doctor said Ethan might not wake any time soon,” James pressed for what felt like the twentieth time.
And I ignored him as always.
