SHE IS LYING
The ringing of my phone snapped my attention away from the computer before me.
A scowl settled on my face just thinking about who on earth would be calling me at this hour.
I answered the call not bothering to check the caller ID.
My lips parted, ready to spit venom at the caller.
But then, her next words froze every blood flowing in my veins.
“Ma’am, this is Ashley’s class teacher.
Please, the school would kindly request you to pick her up, she had been involved in an accident.”
I jumped up from where I was seated.
My eyes flared wide, and my heart beating erratically against my chest as her words rang endlessly in my head.
“She…she had an accident?” I stuttered, struggling to say the words out.
I could barely breathe.
“Yes ma’am,” the teacher replied, her voice small almost like she was afraid.
“I’ll be right there.”
Those were the only words I said as I ended the call.
