LUIS'S POV
The first shot did not awaken me. The second one did.
Like a knife on raw flesh, it sliced through the darkness with a sharp ring. My heart pounded against my ribs as I jolted awake. Sweat-soaked sheets stuck to my chest like cotton soaked in blood.
No dreams. Only this.
