Chapter 28
Camilla's pov
The air had the smell of copper and wet bricks. In my ears, I could hear my own heartbeat beating more loudly than the rain.
Why her? Why did it have to be her among all the targets?
I held the cold gun in my waistband as I stood beneath the broken street lamp. I had already soaked my gloves. There was silence in the city. Too silent. As if it knew what I was going to do. As if it were holding its breath.
She was in the second window from the left, three floors up in that building. The curtains remain unchanged. Lace in yellow. When I was fifteen, I recall assisting her in hanging those. I felt like throwing up.
"Are you sure you're good?"
"Yeah."
"You don't look at it."
"I said I'm fine."

Before my heart could stop it, my body began to move. The stairs made a creaking sound. The smell of garlic and old perfume filled the hallway.
