Chapter 39
LUIS VEGA'S Pov
The smell of sweat and rain filled the motel room. The walls are as thin as paper. One lamp flickered, as if it was too afraid to remain lit. With her arms folded and her eyes alert, Camila stood near the door. As if she wanted to run, but something held her back.
It might have been me.
Or perhaps it was the weight of the air, as if it sensed my impending destruction of everything.
At first, she remained silent. simply gazed. I sensed her anticipation.
I sat with my hands open on my knees on the edge of the bed. My bones seemed to be buzzing inside, even though I wasn't shaking.
"Are you certain you want to hear this?"
She gave a nod.
"You won't look at me the same way."
She did not, however, move.
I exhaled deeply. My heart was thumping like an unavoidable punch.
"Camila, I've killed people."
She blinked. "Everyone in this world has blood on their hands."
I glanced up at her. "Not in this manner."
Not a word.
I remarked, "I wasn't always like this." "I was just a scare
