Chapter 52
ALEJANDRO'S Pov
Beside me, Camila was fast asleep, her head resting on my chest as if nothing had happened. It seemed as though her world had abruptly collapsed just a few hours prior.
I continued to gaze at the ceiling. I hadn't slept. couldn't.
She held me in a way that made me feel valued. That wasn't fair to me.
Her hair felt warm and soft against my skin as I ran my fingers through it. She shifted her position slightly, exhaled softly, and tightened her grip on me even more.
She still had an ocean scent to her. similar to safety.
However, none of this was secure. No longer.
Not while Luis is still alive.
I got out of bed. Keep quiet. Be cautious. wished to avoid waking her. Don't wake her up just yet.
Except for the light in the hallway, the house was dark. The old wooden floor reverberated with the sound of my boots. I went outside, lit an unwanted cigarette, and gazed at the city.
The city was burning beneath its own secrets.
