Camilla's pov
Silence, I believed, meant safety.
I was mistaken.
The knock came just as the sun was peeking through the curtains. Sharp. Quick. False.
Alejandro put his arm around my waist. My back felt warm against his chest. I desired to remain there, encased in his sweat, breath, and security.
However, the knock was heard once more. More volume.
He quickly sat up.
"There's a problem."
"I understand."
I took my firearm out of the drawer and got to my feet. His hand gently touched my lower back. I gave him a look. He was not smiling. He didn't have to.
There was nobody in the hall. Keep quiet. Too silent.
With his jaw clenched, Esteban stood at the end.
"They left a package at the gate."
His tone didn't sit well with me.
"What sort of package is it?"
He gave me a look. His gaze strayed to the ground.
"Come look."
When we arrived, the guards were already dismantling it. The object in question was a small wooden box. black tape. No label.
