Chapter 6

Lilith had end-stage renal disease now—complete kidney failure—and was desperately looking for a donor. Hearing what Elena said just now, Lilith was shaking with rage. "Elena, you bitch! How dare you curse me?" Elena shot her a cold glance, watching Lilith's face turn purple with anger. "Do I even need to curse someone as nasty as you?" She'd had enough—enough of being cursed, looked down upon. Why did Lilith, this two-faced drama queen, always get to play the victim and be treated like a saint after doing awful things, while she, who'd done nothing wrong, had to be trampled all over? "You can cut the act, Lilith. And don't you dare bring up that crap about how I ruined your relationship and got you humiliated. Deep down, you know exactly what went down that night at the hotel." Lilith's eyes flickered, her voice clearly losing its edge. "What do you mean? I have no idea what you're talking about." "You sure?" Elena raised an eyebrow. "Then let me jog your memory. Why do you think that reporter showed up right then and there? Why were the cops raiding that night? And how come you—of all people—ended up in Bald Bull's room?" Elena let out a soft, mocking laugh, her eyes dripping with disdain. She wasn't blind—she'd just been too in love with Emmanuel to see through Lilith's schemes before. "You planned all this just to ruin me, destroy my name. But surprise! Your perfect little setup backfired and got the man you love caught in the mess. You're the real mastermind here. So what makes you think you can cry victim now?" "You're lying! You're framing me! Where's your proof?" Lilith barked back, but the panic in her tone had already given her away. "I don't have hard evidence, sure. But I know what you did. So stop pretending to be this genius puppet master—other people aren't idiots. Just remember, lies have a way of getting out. And when Emmanuel finds out what you really did, do you honestly think he'll still love you? Please. I doubt it." Lilith finally dropped the act. "So what if I did? Look at you now—wrecked and pathetic. Emmanuel loves me. You think he'd believe a word out of your mouth?" Elena could only laugh bitterly. Yeah, even if she had all the truth, even if everyone saw just how twisted Lilith really was, it wouldn't matter. Emmanuel wouldn't believe her. Neither would anyone in the Wakefield family. What else could she do? She stared Lilith down, each word laced with steel. "You should seriously think about doing some good for once. Karma doesn't hit right away, but it doesn't forget either. You're living proof." Lilith was nearly hyperventilating with rage. "Don't get cocky, Elena! I swear, even if I die, I'm dragging you down with me. Watch yourself!" "I'm right here. There's literally nothing left for me to lose." "Oh no, you're not totally empty just yet," Lilith sneered, eyes gleaming with malice. "You've still got a working organ in that body. I happen to need a kidney... and hey, we're cousins, right? Maybe yours is a match." "What the hell? Are you serious?" Elena stared at her in disbelief, completely thrown. "Oh yeah, I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner! After all this time searching high and low, how did I not realize you're the perfect candidate?" Lilith burst out laughing. "Sweet sister, get ready. I'm calling the doctors right now." "Lilith, are you insane? Why on earth would I give you my kidney?" "Oh honey, you don't really have a say in that, do you?" Lilith's smile was devilish. "Emmanuel threw away his own child for me—you think he'd hesitate to sacrifice you?" Still laughing eerily, Lilith walked out of the room. Minutes later, a doctor came in and went straight for Elena, taking her blood for testing. She struggled with everything she had, but in the end, they held her down and took the sample anyway.
