Vivienne said softly, "Spencer, you don't need to blame yourself. Someone as decent and straightforward as you was never going to be a match for someone like Sebastian. He's petty and ruthless. When he wants to target someone, no one can really escape it."
Her words did little to ease Spencer's frustration, but they softened his mood just enough.
After a pause, he asked, "Vivienne… did you make some kind of deal with Sebastian? Is that why he let me go?"
Spencer wasn't naive. Even if he hadn't figured it out at first, it had become obvious over time.
This wasn't just about helping Vivienne find a divorce lawyer.
It ran deeper.
