Sylvia said, "Can you not ask me why?"
"Okay," Arnaud answered without hesitation. His voice was low and even, yet it held a strange power to soothe and calm her nerves.
Sylvia lowered her gaze. She could feel the soreness in her eyes after crying. "I'll pay you back. I promise."
"Mm." Arnaud tilted the umbrella further toward her. "Coming home? I haven't had dinner yet."
Sylvia nodded. "Okay… Let's go home."
Perhaps it was because she'd already gotten the three million, or perhaps she was just emotionally drained, but before the car even reached the villa, she was leaning against the car window asleep.
The rain hadn't stopped yet. If anything, it looked like it could flood the entire city.
Arnaud didn't wake her up. Instead, he simply grabbed the umbrella, got out, and walked around to the passenger side. He then lifted Sylvia into his arms, holding the umbrella entirely over her while he himself walked in the rain.
