Scarlett abruptly stopped crying.
When Brayden had been trapped at the hunting preserve, it was Lindsay who had rushed in despite the danger and rescued him on her own.
However, Scarlett had taken all the credit while Lindsay was unconscious.
Scarlett didn't actually know about what happened in the woods, but the doctor had said that Brayden's injuries indicated a fall.
Therefore, Scarlett assumed that Lindsay had rescued Brayden from the bottom of a cliff.
"I—"
She panicked and tried to make up for her lie, but Brayden ran a business empire. He wasn't that easy to fool.
He narrowed his eyes and asked coldly, "Did you come across any wild animals in the woods that day?"
Scarlett was now too afraid to look at him. She said shiftily, "N-No."
The final vestige of warmth faded from Brayden's eyes.
