Chapter 168
The day after she got back to Westbridge, Serena woke up from a deep sleep to find the villa eerily quiet.
She lay there for a moment before propping herself up and glancing around the room. No sign of Matthew. A quick look at the clock told her it was already noon. He must’ve gone to the office. Bianca had moved into the Allens’ place to rest during her pregnancy—so yeah, the house felt extra empty all of a sudden. That hollow loneliness crept in without warning.
Dragging herself out of bed, Serena freshened up and headed to the living room, where Jennifer was busy setting the table. Serena scratched the back of her head, looking a bit embarrassed. “Jennifer, why didn’t you wake me up?”
“Morning, ma’am! Before he left, sir said you worked hard helping out with the wedding and deserved to catch up on some sleep,” Jennifer said, smiling kindly as she straightened up.
Serena’s cheeks flushed, and she nodded sheepishly as she started eating. Truth be told, she hadn’t actually done much. T
