Serena’s eyes were filled with unease, like a little kitten startled out of nowhere. Matthew, who had been so sure of tonight, softened when he saw her that way. His voice lowered a notch, gentle and calm. “Let me take you home then.”
“Oh, okay...” Serena nodded, her expression easing up a little. But deep down, there was this dull ache of disappointment. You could just feel how the vibe between them had become awkward and unfamiliar.
