Serena hummed happily as she plopped down in the study, borrowing Matthew’s laptop to start working on her resume. Truth be told, during her school days, she was more into ditching class, stuffing her face, and crushing on Dylan than actually doing anything useful. Whatever bit of knowledge she'd crammed in for college entrance exams—already long gone from her brain.
At that moment, she seriously regretted not buckling down in school. Maybe she should’ve tried being a decent student, or at least joined a couple of student clubs, snuck into the student council or something.
Yeah, classic case of “you reap what you sow.”
But regretting now was useless. She stared hard at the job listings on the screen, hunting for anything she might half-qualify for, clinging to a sliver of hope as she fired off her resume.
Then came the rejections—instant ones. The "best" outcome was a dry message two hours later: “Sorry, you do not meet our current requirements.”
Serena was utterly crushed and skipped
