Julie paused for a moment and said instinctively, “Mr. Rodriguez, Mrs. Amity left early this morning and isn't home yet. She hasn't called me to come over and cook.”
“What?” Lawrence glanced at the time again and then looked out the window at the sky.
It was evening now. Why would Amity be out alone at this hour instead of eating at home?
Could she be deliberately waiting at the Family Court just to make him feel guilty and come comfort her?
He impatiently pinched the bridge of his nose and changed the subject.
“Did Amity bring anything home today? Did she send the gift?”
“Sir, please wait a moment. I’ll ask Tom.”
Julie asked the security guard and trembled as she received a small dark red booklet.
“Tom, are you sure you didn’t make a mistake? How could this divorce certificate be the gift Mrs. Amity sent home for the boss? It must be a mistake. Why don’t you check again to see if there are any other items returned?”
